It’s easy to get caught up in the word ‘detox’- it has gained a lot of popularity as a viable way to improve your health and even your skin. Usually, detox brings to mind a specific kind of diet, or some kind of shake, or even a face mask. What you might not know though is that you have another option: detox cleanse pills.

Before you clock into trying these detoxifying pills, however, you should find out more about women’s health and what detoxification means for you. 

  • Not all detox methods are made equal

Detoxing does not necessarily only mean changing your diet or similar methods. Detoxification can be undergone through methods like using supplements, colon cleansing pills, teas, masks, diuretics, and even laxatives.

Changing your diet is certainly one way to try it, but make sure to consult with your physician before you change your nutritional habits- most nutrition plans for detoxifying, especially for women, lack the required amount of protein for your body to function normally.

  • Your body can detoxify itself

You already have a built-in detox system that naturally works to keep itself clean of toxins with your digestive system expelling toxins once they have been processed. Not only that, but your lungs, kidney, liver are detoxing your body naturally as well.

Detoxifying is a natural process your body goes through at a regular pace, and usually, there is no need to induce it with outside aids. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t aid your body in it with natural supplements and similar products. Some detox products are good to help your body in the process of detoxification and maintaining your health.

  • Toxins are more than just bad foods

The word ‘toxin’ is so loosely defined that it might be hard to pinpoint exactly what kind of toxins you should be working to remove from your body. Typically though, toxins will include synthetic ingredients, metals, processed food, and pollutants, which can all negatively affect your health.

Some toxins are actually just natural ingredients you encounter daily: sugar, and even your favorite morning coffees can be disrupting your body’s detoxification process. When you find out which toxins you are looking to eliminate and occur the most in your daily life, you can take specific steps to help you with your detox journey.

  • Vitamins in your detox routine

While detoxing’s main goal is to remove toxins from your body, it may also remove nutrients and healthy bacteria that help to regulate your body’s functions. In those cases, you may find yourself feeling foggy, lightheaded, or feeling weak.

In those cases, you need to consider adding multivitamins to your diet to supplement the nutrient loss and to maintain your diet. Adding herbal or natural supplements to your diet is a good idea in these cases, for example, turmeric, or herbal teas. 

  • Detoxing will affect your menstrual cycle

Once you start your detox process, you may notice things changing for your body. One of those changes will be your menstrual cycle. The changes are different among women but expect your flow to change, as well as your period cycle dates.

Keeping track of them with a period tracker is a good idea during this time, as well as stacking your diet with healthy food and vitamin supplements to fill in the gaps that your simultaneous detox and menstrual cycle will create in your well-being. 

  • Do not expect detoxing to fix everything

Detoxifying is not a cure-all, and you should never approach it expecting it to be. There are several claims about what detoxing can do for your body, and you need to be careful about which ones you choose to subscribe to.

The most common claims are that detox diets and colon cleanse pills and supplements can eliminate toxins from your body completely, improve health, and promote weight loss. While it certainly can do its part towards making your overall health better and even side benefits like improving your skin.

Weight loss is much more contested among health experts, though the side effect of detoxing is that you may lose some weight if you regulate your bowel movements through colon cleanse pills or enemas.

However, this weight loss method is not sustainable, or healthy, and should not be set as a goal or positive on your detox journey. Try to keep in mind that your main goal is a healthy body- not an ideal body.
