Clear Aligners: How They Work & What Are Their Benefits

Published: January 28, 2023

Unlike braces, clear Aligners gradually realign misaligned teeth as they move through your mouth-except they’re removable and easier to use.

Clear aligners have the added benefit of being less noticeable than traditional braces. Thus, teeth straightening with braces has become more popular over the years.

Clear Aligners: How They Work & What Are Their Benefits

What Does A Dental Aligner Do?

Using gentle pressure on your teeth, clear aligners make small movements at a time. Your roots transmit pressure to your jaws.

When you apply pressure, your jawbone moves the sockets, and your teeth follow. Treatment with aligner technology is gentle and comfortable as the changes between aligners tend to be small.

Wearing an aligner for 22 hours per day is necessary for optimum effectiveness. This allows you to brush, floss, and eat without worrying about aligners getting in the way.

Does Clear Aligner Therapy Straighten Teeth?

You might assume that clear braces are simply snapped on and teeth will begin to move once they are worn. The situation isn’t exactly like that, however.

Besides clear aligner therapy, there are other components. We need little pressure points called attachments because aligners do not adhere to the teeth.

During your treatment, attachments will rest on your teeth as tooth-colored bumps. They will be placed and shaped depending on the movements needed.

As the aligners are attached to your teeth, pressure is applied to direct them in the right direction. In addition, you may be asked to use elastics, as is the case with traditional orthodontics.

To allow the upper teeth to shift in relation to the lower teeth, elastics (similar to a tiny rubber band) might be needed. A small button or slot is attached to the teeth for attaching elastic to the aligners.

You may also find that the aligners do not fit perfectly. Changing the shape or size of an object can make all the difference in that case. Anesthesia is rarely required for these minimal procedures because they rarely injure the patient.

Also, clear aligners can be used to treat minor and complex cases, but for severe cases involving challenging movements, conventional braces may perform best. You get the desired result that way and save both time and money.

A Subtle Look

Clear aligners have the advantage of being subtle, which makes them a popular orthodontic option.

It’s no big deal for a child to get metal braces when they need braces. It will be easy for your child to blend in because many children wear braces. Getting into orthodontics can be scary for older teens and adults, however.

Having something new and obvious in your mouth shouldn’t make you feel uncomfortable, but it is normal to feel self-conscious about it when you’re improving your smile.

You Can Eat The Foods You Like

Clear aligners have the advantage that you are not restricted from eating your favorite snacks while you wear them.

While you have your aligner in, you should not eat or drink anything other than water. However, they’re easy to remove that eating is no problem at all. If you brush between meals, you can keep your sticky and sugary foods.

Whenever you eat foods that contain turmeric, please keep in mind that they may stain any attachments that you have.

Easy To Clean Aligners

Maintaining your teeth and your aligner is far easier when you wear a clear aligner rather than braces.

It is difficult to brush and floss your teeth with braces. Fortunately, Invisalign is a breeze when you’ve got them. As usual, you can use a charcoal toothbrush and floss your teeth.
